about

Originally released 22 September 2012. Re-released with addition of tracks 4 & 7, September 2014.

A little note:

In April 2011, Sully, Jack, and I ventured into Jack's basement to make a few songs and attempt to be in a band together. We became fast friends, released some home-recordings, and a few people noticed. It was nice. We hooked up with an independent label in Nashville, released an EP, played CMJ, and then were given the opportunity to travel the country in support of those five songs. Touring wasn't glamorous and eventually happenstance led to the tour losing a lot of money, which led to us leaving the label, and taking some time away from Asker.

In the summer of 2013, I wrote close to 30 new songs for a full-length Asker record. All of those were scrapped and a full-length record never came to fruition. We kept playing clubs in the Twin Cities until October 2013, when we played our last show at the 331 Club. Over the next few months we quietly wrote and recorded, free from the busyness of the previous two years.

We had everything in order to release new music in early 2014, however, in the 11th hour of that preparation we were hit with legal issues regarding the name Asker. A singer-songwriter from Sweden had trademarked the name in 2007 and *intended* to use it for his own music/wipe us off the World Wide Web. Lawyers were brought in and we pursued every angle we could to reach an agreement, but eventually it became obvious that Asker was going to come to an end. We quickly removed our name and presence from the Internet in the following weeks. Our music was taken down from every site you could imagine and Asker quietly went away. However, since we have one last performance commitment to fulfill, I decided to throw these songs back online. This band was three years of my life and I'm not about to see it disappear completely. I am thankful for everything this band gave to me. So thankful that Jack, Sully, and I started a new band that will be debuting in a handful of weeks.

Til then,

Track Name: Man From Munich
I see the ground from my window

I feel the earth below me swell

I love the graceful way you tell me

All is well

You are an angel

You wear it well

I cannot compare anything I know

To my coldest spell

How long must I wait for you

Make your mind up

How long says the man from Munich

Does it matter at all

You’re a comfort from the cold

A respite to my wounds

Hold my head as I’m falling

Hold my head as I’m falling

I need you now more than you know

How long must I wait for you

Make your mind up

How long says the man from Munich

Does it matter at all

I’m inside of a fire falling

I’m inside of a fire falling

I’m inside of a fire falling free

How long must I wait for you

Make your mind up

How long says the man from Munich

Does it matter at all
Track Name: Cathedral
Pious as a priest

Raising your glass but you haven’t a drop

You’d think that in the least

Your pin in the map would tell you that you’re lost

So listen to me

Listen closely, look me straight in the eye

The shutter snaps as you speak

And truth never frames in such even light

All I can think about

Is going home

What can I hope for

But going home

I wouldn’t suppose

You keep like a king stowing up his thieves

I’d never impose

It’s hidden from view but there’s a heart on my sleeve

So listen to me

Listen closely look me straight in the eye

The shutter snaps as you speak

Truth never frames in such even light

All I can think about

Is going home

What can I hope for

But going home

I know my way there

I find my way

I find my way there

I find my way

All I can think about

Is going home

What can I hope for

But going home
Track Name: Raise The Dead
If you make sense of what’s broken in you
I’ll put you back together
If you make sense of the bones within you
I’ll put them back together
I promise you I’ll make good on my word
I won’t bend the truth
I promise you I’ll make good on my word
Worn out and jaded

If I could raise the dead, I’d bring you back

I wish that I, wish that I could’ve saved you
I wish that I, wish that I could’ve saved you
It’s only time ‘til what you’ve got bends and breaks you
I wish that I could’ve saved you

I’m half awake
Bending strings to find my way
Back to you

We’ve got angels on our shoulders
You wonder if God’s asking why
We could melt in our melodies
Or scream at the sky

I wish that I, wish that I could’ve saved you
I wish that I, wish that I could’ve saved you
It’s only time ‘til what you’ve got bends and breaks you
I wish that I could’ve saved you
Track Name: I Want To Disappear
Just a stone’s-throw

Flowers grow up but then surely die

Touch turns to gold

Blame it upon my wandering eye

I want to disappear

I want to disappear

I want to disappear

With you

Mindful and patient

Tell me a story so I sleep

Your eyes have no silence

Mindful to secrets that they speak

I want to disappear

I want to disappear

I want to disappear

With you

You built a tower

Found God inside a picture frame

I don’t know better

Tell me that you feel the same

I want to disappear

I want to disappear

I want to disappear

With you
Track Name: Racing England
My most prized possessions

And my last empty thoughts

Stow them away now

keep them hidden in a box

In a heartbeat you can lose yourself

Spilled milk and atom bombs

Times worth crying about

Heard it in the hallway

Believed it on my long walk home

We’re racing England

Racing England, no?

Hours of desperate moments

What’s a war when it’s been fought?

The fight in my lays dormant

Keep it hidden in a box

Give me a voice now

Or give me nothing

What’s a life in the end

Even when it’s gone?

Heard it in the hallway

Believed it on my long walk home

We’re racing England

We’re racing England, no?

Souls side by side

I need yours to make me whole

You held out hope

You let your guard down

Held out hope

You let your guard come down

I see an angle, I find an opening

I see a way out, I see a light and then

I have to wonder why to live and die

But it’s below me, it’s below me

We’re racing England

We’re racing England, no?

Souls side by side

I need yours to make me whole

You held out hope

You let your guard down

Held out hope

You let your guard come down
Track Name: Solid Gold
What seems false is pouring in in color

What seems true, fading all to gray

You’ve gone one end to the other

Picking up the things you lead astray

You’ve got a heart of solid gold

The devil stands with his red hands outstretched

You struggle to ignore him

All your friends are nothing more than hypocrites

You’ve done your best to ignore them

You’re waiting for a white light

Waiting for a white light to show

Take another step I dare you to my dear

And let it go

You’ve got a heart of solid gold

I know where you’ve stand from the folds in your map

I’ll follow where you go, solid gold
Track Name: Escapists
There, wherever you want

We’ll make our escape

We’ll run away

Time tends to stand still

And it tends to raise hell

When it starts again

You’ve got a pretty dark outlook

On the way things are

You swing your fists, prizefighter!

An escapist is what you are

There, wherever you want

You set fuel to flame

We’ll make our escape

And time? We’re taking our fill

We’ll store hours away

For some rainy day.

You’ve got a pretty dark outlook

On the way things are

You swing your fists, prizefighter!

An escapist is what you are

There, wherever you want

We’ll make our escape

We’ll run away

Time tends to stand still

And it tends to raise hell

When it starts again
